Natural History
Encyclopedia of Life
An ongoing project intended to create an online reference source and database for every one of the 1.8 million species that are named and known on this planet. Each organism’s home page should eventually (as appropriate) provide a description and photos of the species, vocalizations, research data, range maps, habitat, life history, evolution and systematics, interesting facts, common names, references, and more. For example, from the peregrine falcon page you can view over a dozen stunning photos and learn that it is the fastest animal recorded, diving at speeds in excess of 200 m.p.h. The site welcomes contributions by amateurs as well as professionals.
