Victoria Ninnes sent us some nice photos of a fox seen at Sunnyside Beach at 7 a.m. on January 21, 2012. Go to Fox to see them in the "Mammals" set on our Flickr site.
Joy and Robert Cohen sighted a Papilio Cresphontes (Giant Swallowtail butterfly) on Joy's hanging verbena, June 22, 2008, confirmed (July 1) by entomologist John Walas of the Thunder Bay Field Naturalists. According to John Walas, "That is a very unusual sighting for your area and should be noted for the Toronto Entomological Soc." It was subsequently submitted to Colin Jones of the Toronto Lepidopterist Society and recorded. See photos under Insects in the Photo Gallery.
On Sunday, June 10 while driving north on I-93 towards Eureka, MT, we spotted a family of 3 badgers crossing the road ahead of us. Several other cars were there as well, and as the third badger got safely across it turned to challenge the closest vehicle. I wish my camera had been readily available -- I would have gotten a good photo.
