Monthly Meetings

Times: 7:00 p.m. on the 2nd Tuesday of each month except the May meeting, which may be moved to the 1st Tuesday, depending on the timing of the annual Point Pelee birding trip. No meetings in July and August.

Places and Directions

A. Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario: Great Lakes Forestry Centre, 1219 Queen St. East. (Sept, Oct, Nov, May and June)

Click on pin A on the map.

If you are coming from the U.S., turn right after leaving the bridge plaza onto Huron Street and follow it around the curve to the left, where it turns into Bay Street. Follow Bay to its intersection with Queen Street, where the road curves to the right following a traffic signal. Continue straight ahead on Queen Street to the Great Lakes Forestry Centre (Bug Lab), which is just beyond the intersection with Pine Street. (Look for a large sign on your right.) Park in the lot on your left and walk in the main entrance, where you will be asked by an attendant to sign in. The meetings are usually down the stairs in the room on your right.

B. Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan: Bayliss Public Library, 541 Library Drive. (January, March and April)

If you are coming from Canada, turn right onto the first exit after leaving the bridge plaza and then left onto Portage Street. Turn left at the first stop sign on Easterday Avenue and follow it down a steep hill to Ashmun Street. Go left at the traffic light and cross the bridge over the power canal, then turn right immediately onto Library Drive, which goes straight to the library. There is parking at the library and in nearby parking lots.

Annual Dinner Meeting

Time: Usually starts at 6-6:30 on the 2nd Tuesday of February. Time, place, and other information will be provided under Annual Dinner and General Meeting.

Places: In odd years meetings will be held at the Sault College Cafeteria (or another site to be announced) in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.  Directions to Sault College: If you’re coming from the U.S., turn left onto Huron after leaving the International Bridge Plaza and immediately right on Albert. After Albert makes a sharp curve to the left and merges with Wellington, follow the signs for Highway 17 North and turn left on Church St (just beyond Pim). Continue on Highway 17 North to the traffic light at Northern Avenue. Turn right on Northern Ave. and then take the first right (at lights) onto Willow Ave. Then turn left into the first laneway. If there is space, park in the lot to the left and enter the building through the glassed entrance foyer located in the corner beyond the northeast corner of the parking lot. Walk down the hallway to the right and the cafeteria will be found about 50 yards (metres) on the right. If the left hand parking lot is full, park across the laneway to the right of where you entered and walk to the same entrance.  Entrance is accessible to handicapped persons and there is handicapped parking nearest to the door. (The A-lot on Northern Avenue should also be available but the entrance there is less accessible.) There is no charge for parking in the evening. Click HERE for a map of the Sault College campus.

In even years, meetings are usually held in the West Superior Room of the Walker Cisler Center on the campus of the Lake Superior State University, Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Directions: The LSSU campus is just east of I-75 on W Easterday Avenue. From Canada, turn right after leaving the U.S. toll booth, left onto W Portage, and left again at the Easterday Avenue 4-way stop. After crossing the viaduct over I-75, turn left at the first traffic light into the LSSU campus, then turn left at the stop sign and follow the road around the Cisler Center to the parking area in back. Enter the rear (north) entrance to the Cisler Center, then go up the stairs and straight down the hall to the West Superior Room, which will be on your right. Handicapped access is available at the south entrances to the building.
