Report Bird Sightings—2018

To report a bird sighting yourself, follow these steps:

1. Log in and click on the "Edit" tab above (contact ron_prickett@yahoo.ca for editing permission).

2. Enter the date and report your sighting directly after the heading 2018 Bird Sightings, leaving a space between your report and any previous report.

3. Give the location of the sighting and any other relevant information, then add your name.

4. Click on "Save" below.

 

Otherwise send the above information and any photo files you have to carterdorscht@hotmail.com.

 

If you'd like to post your photos of any unusual sightings:

1. Be sure you're in the "Edit" mode.

2. Click on the "Images and files" tab under "Insert Links"

3. Click on Upload files.

4. Select the photo file you want to upload from the finder window and click on Choose. Its file name should then appear under "Images and files."

5. Place the cursor where you want the photo to appear and click on its file name. 

6. If necessary, resize the photo so that it is no larger than the one above.

7. Click on "Save" below.

2018 Bird Sightings

 

May 11, 2018.  Elijah Rodgers found a Western Kingbird at the mouth of Whitefish Creek, which flows between South St. Marys Island and Whitefish Island in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. This bird was around until May 13, 2018. Photo taken by Carter Dorscht.

 

 

April 19, 2018.  Euan Aitken found a male Ruddy Duck in the St. Marys River out from City Hall in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.  Photo taken by Ron Dorscht.

 

 

March 5, 2018. Eric Pritchard found a Greater White-fronted Goose on St. Joseph Island, Ontario near the corner of the Huron Line and I Line.  Photo taken by Carter Dorscht. 

 


March 5, 2018. Anne May reports: We have had a new visitor to our suet feeder this winter, a female red-bellied woodpecker. This is the first year we have seen one and she has visited us numerous times. She started coming to the feeder mid Jan and see her almost weekly. We live near on the hill near North Street.

 

 

February 12, 2018. Art Bennett observed a Red Bellied Woodpecker at one of his feeders on Mon. Feb. 12th. at approx. 10:00am. He says “I am located in Bruce Mines. Have had several Red Headed Woodpeckers frequent the feeder in the past but usually in the Spring never a Red Bellied! This fellow was very attractive and a delight and surprise to see.”

 

February 9, 2018. Barry Lyons photographed this male Barrow's Goldeneye in the St. Marys River in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario from the boardwalk in front of the mall.  This is the first well documented record of the species in the Sault Ste. Marie area.  This bird was first seen on February 6th and was present up until March 18th on the Canadian side and March 22nd on the American side.  It was first located on the Michigan side of the river on March 14th, making it the first official record of the species in Chippewa County.
